The Increasing Popularity of Functional Food

Our health is our most precious asset. In its absence, everything else becomes secondary. Therefore, it’s crucial to provide nutrients in order to maintain our health.

Let’s be honest: can you claim to have a healthy and well-balanced diet? If not, don’t worry – you’re not alone. Everyone struggles with it from time to time, mainly because most of us prefer instant or quickly prepared meals in our stressful everyday life. Unfortunately, these products only contain few nutrients but lots of calories which eventually increase the risk of obesity. An unbalanced and unvaried diet can lead to:

  • insufficient supply with nutrients like proteins, vitamins and minerals)

  • too much or too little caloric intake

  • long-term diseases related to poor nutrition

This is where functional food steps in starting with breakfast in the morning as common cereals are loaded with sugar without providing much energy. Healthy porridges enriched with proteins, vitamins and long-chained carbs represent better alternatives. There are also optimized alternatives to bread if you don’t fall for oats.

Nowadays, your cupcake in the afternoon no longer has to be considered unhealthy (or make you feel bad). Using a protein baking mixture creates a quick snack and provides the body with important protein. Moreover, they mostly contain less sugar than conventional baking mixes.

Same for pasta - although sometimes being avoided and demonized due to its high carb content, pasta is a real soul food and has been re-invented numerous times within the past years. Nowadays, pasta is made from various grains and plants like chickpeas, lentils or millet.

Flavour powders also have become increasingly popular recently. Mostly based on health beneficial fibers such as inulin they pimp up your morning yoghurt, milk or cereal breakfast with flavour, spices and/or fruit chunks and make it something special.

If you are someone who likes to simplify the preparation of a meal, here is the good news: even instant meals can be delicious and healthy. Keep your eyes wide open when exploring the aisles of your favorite grocery store because more and more instant and pre-cooked meals are available in a functional food version.

We could go on endlessly with the multitude of today’s possibilities to turn common dishes into health beneficial super food meals. When you come up with more ideas, please contact us and we’ll go on the path of realizing it together.
